India Beat Australia by 24 Runs, Rohit Sharma Sets Two World Records

Rohit Sharma's 92 off 53 balls propelled India to a 205-5 total

India defeated Australia by 24 runs in the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma being the star of the show. Sharma set two world records during his innings, becoming the first player to score 4000 runs in T20Is and the first to hit 150 sixes in T20Is.

Australia won the toss and elected to field first. India got off to a solid start, with Sharma and KL Rahul putting on a 75-run opening stand. Sharma was particularly aggressive, hitting 11 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Rahul was dismissed for 39, but Sharma continued to dominate the Australian bowling attack. He reached his half-century off just 30 balls and his century off just 51 balls.

Sharma's innings helped India post a competitive total of 205-5 from their 20 overs. Australia got off to a good start in their chase, with David Warner and Aaron Finch putting on a 50-run opening stand. However, once Warner was dismissed for 23, Australia began to lose wickets regularly. Travis Head top-scored for Australia with 76, but he was the only batsman to offer any real resistance to the Indian bowling attack.

Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking three wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah also bowled well, taking two wickets for just 20 runs from his four overs. Australia were eventually bowled out for 181, giving India a 24-run victory.

The victory was India's second in the Super Eight, and it moved them to the top of the table. Australia, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the tournament and dropped to third place.
