Snooker Gestern Mcgill

McGill stunned by He in World Championship

Glasgow's Anthony McGill crashed out of the World Championship in Sheffield on Tuesday night.

McGill was beaten 10-5 by China's He Guoqiang in the third round at the Crucible.

McGill had reached the quarter-finals in each of the last two years but was unable to match that run this time around.

The 33-year-old Scot was 5-3 up at one stage but He won the last seven frames to book his place in the last 16.

McGill was left to rue a poor safety shot in the 13th frame which handed He the chance to take the lead for the first time.

He made no mistake and went on to seal victory with a break of 64 in the 15th frame.

McGill said: "I'm obviously very disappointed. I felt like I played OK but I made a couple of mistakes at crucial times.

"He's a very good player and he took his chances. I wish him all the best in the rest of the tournament."

He will now face Mark Selby in the last 16 on Wednesday.

McGill's defeat means that there are now no Scottish players left in the tournament.

John Higgins, Stephen Maguire and Graeme Dott all lost in the second round.
